Evacuation sign-up

instructions at the end*

In December 2019, as part of test-run operations, gas containing huge amounts of pollutants, equivalent to what is allowed (according to emissions permit) to be released during more than entire year, will be released from the Leviathan platform in 2, 8-hour periods.

A newly-publicized expert medical opinion states “The area residents who may be severely affected by these pollutants should be given a clear notice, enough time in advance, so that they can prepare to leave the area and prevent exposure.”

Recommendation for evacuation for health

Shomrei Habayit recommends that residents of the areas surrounding the Leviathan platform consider leaving the area for these 2 time periods, as a precautionary measure and supported by the medical expert opinion, and at the very least, for vulnerable individuals such as the sick, children, and elderly, to leave. The recommendation is directed to coastline residents between Haifa and Netanya, and up to a distance of 10 km from the coast (and at the very least residents between Atlit and Hadera).

According to World Health Organization standards, benzene is a carcinogen at all exposure levels. Additional chemicals that will be released from the platform during the planned gas releases, are also known carcinogens and underlie many severe diseases. During the test run period thus far, even before the large planned gas releases yet to come, spikes of dangerous pollutants other than benzene such as ozone and NO2 were recorded in the Zichron Yaakov area (greater than permitted ambient levels according to the Ministry of Environmental Protection). And additionally, levels that were very close to the maximum permitted ambient levels of chemicals that are considered by the WHO as hazardous at all levels, such as PM2.5 (particulate matter, 2.5 microns), were also recorded.

Evacuating together

If our fate requires us to leave our homes, we will do it as a unified body and we will travel as a long convoy, wearing hazmat masks and carrying signs to a central location where we can protest.

When?

We are still waiting for an exact date – apparently between the 16thand 20th of December. The Ministry of Environmental Protection obligated to give a 24 hour notice, so please stay informed and be prepared to evacuate with shorter notice.

To where?

Facing the government center in Tel Aviv (opposite Azrieli)

How?

We are preparing buses to transport whoever wants to use this service.

The bus (roundtrip) will cost 40 shekels per seat. You may also evacuate using your own vehicle, as part of the convoy of evacuees.

There is great importance in evacuating together. The picture of many buses and cars evacuating the residents, will help convey the message to the media and to the government officials that abandoned us, leaving us in great distress.

Please sign up for buses as quickly as possible, so that we can prepare accordingly.

Bus sign-up has 3 steps:
1. List your party’s personal details in this form.

2. Pay 40 shekel for each person in your party using PayBox: click here for payment.

3. Join the designated WhatsApp Group so that we can send you detailed messages as the evacuation day approaches

Please note that whoever already signed up (step 1) but didn’t pay or join the WhatsApp group must complete all 3 stages so that you will be guaranteed a spot in the bus.

What else?

We are promoting the establishment of a Home Guardians independent monitoring system with transparent and credible data.

This is expensive.

6 Miles is too close to home

The Leviathan nearshore gas processing platform can:

• Ruin Israel’s coastline
• Contaminate water sources
• Cause dangerous air pollution

The safer alternative

A Floating Gas Processing Platform (FPSO),
over the gas field, 74 miles from Israel's coast!

Since 2010, 97% of deep-water oil and gas fields are developed using offshore FPSOs, above the  fields. This is the case for Karish and Tanin, two Israeli gas fields located near the Leviathan field.

Israel’s Ministry of Energy praised the developers of Karish and Tanin for choosing an offshore FPSO and by that, minimizing the hazards to Israel’s public health and environment. Yet Leviathan’s platform will be located only 6 miles from Israel’s coastline.

An offshore FPSO will minimize the risk to:

About Us

Our Organization

Homeland Guards (“Shomrey Habayit” in Hebrew) is an Israeli environmental protection organization with more than 200,000 supporters and thousands of volunteers (and growing daily!).

We are a non-profit organization, without any political agenda, funded entirely by donations.

Our Principles

  • We are non-political
  • We are non-violent
  • We engage in respectful dialog

Our Goals

  •  Ensure that raw gas is processed as far from Israel’s coastline and population centers as possible.

  • Prevent the transportation, storage and treatment of hazardous by-products of natural gas processing, such as condensate, in close proximity to Israeli population centers.

  • Move Israel’s petrochemical industry far away from population centers.

  • Meeting Israel’s greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets, based on UN’s IPCC, in order to fight global climate change

“Look at My works, how beautiful and praiseworthy they are! And all that I have created, it was for you that I created it. Pay attention that you do not corrupt and destroy My world: if you corrupt it, there is no one to repair it after you.”
